Nventa's goal is to collaborate with leading biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies that share a commitment to transforming the lives of infectious disease patients. Increased drug resistance and emerging pathogens underline the need for effective new therapeutic agents. The Company is actively pursuing partnerships for a number of infectious disease opportunities targeting:
Human Papillomavirus (HPV)
The Company is developing HspE7 as a potential therapy for conditions associated with HPV infection. HspE7, a recombinant fusion protein comprising the human papillomavirus (HPV) E7 antigen and the heat shock protein Hsp65 from Mycobacterium bovis, is a therapeutic vaccine for the treatment of HPV diseases such as genital warts (GW), recurrent respiratory papillomas (RRP) and cervical dysplasia (CIN). The compound has been studied in several clinical trials and the Company plans to initiate the next phase of clinical development in 2006.
There are approximately 5.5 million new cases of genital HPV infection every year in the US.
Influenza
The Company is developing a potential therapy for influenza utilizing a recombinant fusion protein comprising a highly conserved influenza antigen and the heat shock protein Hsp65 from Myocbacterium bovis. This therapeutic vaccine is currently undergoing preclinical development and the Company hopes to move this program into clinical development in the near future. Nventa retains worldwide rights to this program.
Hepatitis B
The Company is developing a potential therapy for hepatitis B utilizing a recombinant fusion protein comprising a highly conserved Hepatitis B antigen and the heat shock protein Hsp65 from Myocbacterium bovis. This therapeutic vaccine is currently undergoing preclinical development and the Company hopes to move this program into clinical development in the near future. Nventa retains worldwide rights to this program.
It is estimated that up to 1.2 million people in the U.S. are chronically infected with Hepatitis B, resulting in health care and other costs of approximately US $700 million per year.
