Jay M. Short, Ph.D. has served as one of our Directors since March 1994. In 2008, Dr. Short became the Executive Chairman and Principal of BioAlta. In 2005, Dr. Short became Chairman, President and co-founder of the E.O. Wilson Biodiversity Foundation in Del Mar, CA. Dr. Short served as President, Chief Executive Officer, Chief Technology Officer, Director and Founder for Diversa Corporation from September 1994 to October 2005. Dr. Short also serves as a Director for Invitrogen Corporation, a research products company and Senomyx, a biotechnology company focused on the development of novel food and beverage ingredients. He previously served at biotechnology companies Stratacyte, Inc., as President, and Strategene Cloning Systems as Vice President of Research and Development and Operations. Dr. Short received a B.A. in chemistry with honors from Taylor University and a Ph.D. in biochemistry from Case Western Reserve University. He has authored more than 100 publications and is named inventor of over 100 issued patents and several hundred pending patents. He received San Diego 's 2001 E&Y Entrepreneur of the Year Award in Health Sciences and he currently serves as Entrepreneur in Residence for the University of California San Diego.
